Douglas Fir Timbers
Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) is an evergreen conifer species that is native to western North America. Douglas fir is well known for its use in the timber frame and construction industry due to its strength, durability and versatility. It has straight grain, moderate density, and excellent dimensional stability which makes it an ideal timber for structural applications.
We stock a variety of Douglas fir timbers to be able to provide a quick turnaround for your project. All timbers would be of #1 Structural Grade. For in-stock items, our turnaround is within a few days. Any timbers that would need to be resawn, would be resawn from #1 Grade FOHC (Free of Heart Centre) Douglas fir timbers.

Boxed Heart
Boxed heart timbers are sawn around the heart (centre) of the tree. They are the most economical, but also the most prone to checking, and twisting.
FOHC (Free of Heart Centre)
Free of Heart Centre timbers are sawn in a way to avoid having the heart of the tree within the timber. This creates a timber that will dry more evenly, checking, twisting and warping less than Boxed Heart.
All timbers are available in two different finishes, Rough Sawn or Dressed Four Sides (D4S).
Rough Sawn
Rough Sawn (also known as full sawn) is the timber produced when logs are initially sawn by a saw mill to its nominal size. This creates a rougher texture on the timber with visible saw marks.
D4S
Dressed Four Sides timber has been planed smooth on all faces for a more refined look. The planing process produces a timber with precise dimensions ½” under the nominal timber size.
